Alternative Worship

Alternative Worship is a bi-monthly worship service led by Young People from the local churches.

Next Service: 6th July 2003
With: RISE

What is the thinking behind it?

The idea is that a group of young people come together to lead people in a service of worship and prayer, in a totally different way. The young people run the service almost entirely, and what comes out is an innovative service that is inspirational but radically different from Sunday morning services.

Who is welcome?

Naturally the services have a slight young people orientation but its a great service suitable for all.

What can I expect to find there?

The youth group of 11-16 year olds have discussed the service for the past few weeks. They have chosen a topic which they feel is interesting or of importance, and have researched and worked, to write a service.
During the Sunday before the service the youth group has got together in the church, and decorated it to suit the theme. Then, at 7pm, Alex cranks up the gain on his amp, Daniel finds his drumsticks, the OHP is switched on and Charlie starts up, the service begins.
The service lasts between 30 mins and an hour, during which the group leads the congregation is modern worship songs, prayers, and general meditation.
And to cap it all, there's donuts!

All young people in the area are invited to have a role in setting up the service, but the main stays are:

The BandThe band, which for some reason is called Jogli. Apparently he's the son of Bekki in Numbers 35.
In the band are:
Alex: general stand up at the font guy, he plays guitars, sings, and does most of the talking. There isn't a photo of him looking at the camera because he missed the rehearsal to go down to the pub, err, do church duties.
Daniel: he hides at the back, so you might not see him, but you can sure can hear him. Not that that's a bad thing.
Charlie: awwww- it's Daniel's little bro. He plays bass. Err. He wears weird shirts- there's got to be one of them in every band.
William: When you read the sleeves of CD's and see 'backing vocals'- that means in our case William. He's also a general odd job kinda guy. No, he doesn't have a bowler hat; he just does odd jobs, like scratching wax off the carpet, and putting up acetates.

Also in need of great acclaim are the mighty Kim and Bruce. These two God-blessed troupers have to keep these in check.
